No. Unlike natural stones such as granite or marble, engineered quartz is completely non-porous. It never requires sealing, waxing, or special maintenance. This non-porous nature also makes it highly resistant to stains from coffee, wine, and oils, as well as being exceptionally hygienic.
While quartz is highly durable, it is not entirely heat-proof. The engineered surface contains resins that can be damaged or discolored by extreme, direct heat or prolonged temperature exposure. To ensure your countertops stay flawless, we always recommend using a trivet or hot pad.
Engineered quartz is typically composed of about 90% to 95% natural crushed quartz crystals—one of the hardest minerals on earth. These natural crystals are then bound together with advanced polymer resins and color pigments, creating a surface that is incredibly strong, flexible, and consistent in its design.
We generally do not recommend standard engineered quartz for outdoor applications. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and UV rays can cause the resins in the stone to fade or yellow over time. If you are building an outdoor kitchen, we highly recommend natural granite or quartzite instead.
